This is the story of Irene Pepperberg, the woman who trained a parrot, Alex, to speak English. It talks about the training, risks, and successes of the project. The story is well told and entertaining, it is easy to get drawn in. I am curious if the research has been continued and with what successes.

The Spellman Files by Lisa Lutz
This is the first book of the Spellmans. They are a normal family, with a family business of investigation. But they spend most of the time investigating each other. Blackmail, spying, bribery, and other black arts are a regular part of their interaction. The book is very funny and I can strongly recommend it.
