The Cold Dish by Craig Johnson

This is the first book in the Longmire mystery series and serves as an introduction to the main characters. The mystery revolves around a man who was murdered and left in the wilderness. Clues relate to the rape of a mentally slow girl and indian artifacts.

I found this mystery only moderately interesting and the writing adequate, if this had been the first of the series I had read I would not have placed a lot of value on reading others. The books seems to focus on introducing characters and the setting.

An Obvious Fact by Craig Johnson

Craig Johnson finds a motorcyclist, critically injured, run off the road by an unknown motorist. His investigation takes him across the border into Sturgis South Dakota during the big motorcycle rally, interacting with motorcycle gangs during his research.

Henry Standing Bear is present with his car named Lola and two motorcycles bearing female names, preparing for the hill climbing competition. During the investigation they encounter the original Lola for whom the car is named and who is the mother of the dead motorcyclist and involved in whatever is going on.

The writing is good, the characters interesting and the story compelling. This is he 12th in the series.

he Highwayman by Craig Johnson

Filed under: Mystery — Tags: — Randolph @ 6:30 am

This was my first Craig Johnson novel. This story is half mystery-half ghost story.

In the story, a policewoman receives radio signals from an officer. in distress from 30 years in the past. With her sanity in question, Walt Longmire investigates while keeping an open mind, and the radio signals seem related to missing money from the time of the distress signal.

The story involves well-developed characters that come to life in the story.
